The Department of English and Technical Communication holds several seasonal and special events and activities in the course of the academic year. These events enhance relationships within the department community.
Book Signing Reception
The department celebrates the publication of a faculty member's book by holding a book-signing reception. The department faculty, staff, and students participate and appreciate faculty publications.

Banned Book Week
Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, celebrates the American Library Association's Banned Book Week. The organization sets up a table and some audio equipment usually in front of the Havener Center and holds a raffle for banned books that were donated by professors.

Spring Poetry Readings
Each spring, the department sponsors a series of poetry readings. The theme of the 2007 series, for example, was the literature of Ireland.

Welcome Back Reception
Each fall, the department sponsors a "Welcome Back" reception for new faculty and majors in English and technical communication.
Christmas Party
Every year, the department celebrates Christmas by throwing a Christmas party. Food and drinks are provided by faculty and staff members.
Spring Picnic
The spring picnic usually takes place in May at the Lion’s Club Park in Rolla. The faculty, staff, and students get together and enjoy good food and company.
