Study Abroad Experience

The study abroad experience enriches you and makes you more marketable to employers. Missouri S&T has developed a fantastic Student Exchange Program that can send you to one of more than 40 foreign universities for a summer, a semester, or even a whole school year. One of Missouri S&T's most popular exchanges, the Missouri London Program, sends students to Imperial College for three- or six-week summer programs or semester-long courses that combine academics with field trips across the U.K.

Now in its 26th year, the Missouri London program is especially popular with students in the English and Technical Communication department.  Students in the program can visit the Globe Theater and experience life in Tudor England firsthand. They will also study British life, literature and culture in small classes at Imperial College. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the streets, pubs and architecture of the city of London itself, including galleries, museums, and the many other theatres in the West End and on the Fringe, the Inns of Court and Old Bailey, and St. Paul's Cathedral. Being able to study in London and visit these historical places provides unforgettable intellectual and aesthetic experiences.

To be eligible for a study abroad program, a student must enroll and pay for a semester's fees at Missouri S&T. The applicant must be a full-time student in good standing, complete all required paperwork and a personal interview and demonstrate sufficient financial resources. (Financial aid applies, although certain scholarships may require preapproval.) For information, contact the Susan Kellems, Director of the Missouri London Program, G-4 Humanities and Social Sciences Building, or call her at 573-341-4869.

Sometimes special classes are offered that allow students the opportunities to travel to other places like the Caribbean.  Dr. Swenson, in a joint effort with the Biology and Geology departments, offered students a chance to study Caribbean literature in an English 390 class offered in the Spring of 2007. The students then had a chance to travel to the Caribbean in May after the semester was finished.
